Advancements in veterinary medicine allow us to protect your pet against a range of harmful (and sometimes fatal) diseases. As part of our practice’s commitment to preventative health, we create vaccination plans based on your pet’s individual needs. Some vaccines are mandatory (core), while we only recommend others based on your pet’s risk factors (non-core). 

Why should I vaccinate my dog?

Vaccinations are a safe, highly effective way of either completely protecting your pet from contracting some diseases or reducing its effects if they’re infected. Some of these conditions are quite serious and potentially fatal. Vaccines are an easy and guaranteed way to prevent your furry friend from getting sick. Which vaccines do you recommend?

We recommend a combination of core and non-core vaccines for our canine friends, including: 

• DA2PP (core) – This combination vaccine protects your pet against distemper, adenovirus type 2 (hepatovirus), parvovirus, and parainfluenza, which are highly contagious.
• Rabies (core) – This protects your pet against rabies, which can be fatal and highly transmissible. Humans can also be infected with Rabies. 
• Bordetella (Kennel Cough) – This protects against bordetella which is like dog flu, that can be fatal for puppies or immuno-compromised dogs.
• Leptospirosis – This protects against leptospirosis, which is spread through bodily functions.
• Lyme – This protects against Lyme disease, which is spread by ticks, especially in wooded areas. 

When should my pet be vaccinated?

Puppies should be vaccinated starting at 8 weeks, beginning with DA2PP. Your dog should get DA2PP, Bordetella, Leptospirosis, and Lyme boosters yearly. After the first year of being vaccinated against rabies, your dog should receive a booster after 3 years.
