Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Advancements in veterinary medicine allow us to protect your pet against a range of harmful (and sometimes fatal) diseases. As part of our practice’s commitment to preventative health, we create vaccination plans based on your pet’s individual needs. Some vaccines are mandatory (core), while we only recommend others based on your pet’s risk factors (non-core). 

Why should I vaccinate my cat?

Vaccinations are a safe, highly effective way of either completely protecting your pet from contracting some diseases or reducing its effects if they’re infected. Vaccines go through rigorous testing, with many being on the market for decades, attesting to their effectiveness. Our team wholeheartedly believes in vaccinations and believes they are a great way to safeguard your furry family member. Since your pet’s needs are unique, we will create a vaccination plan that includes vaccines that protect them against the diseases they pose the highest risks of contracting. Which vaccines do you recommend?

We recommend a combination of core and non-core vaccines for our feline friends, including: 

• FVRCP (core) – This combination vaccine protects your pet against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia, which are extremely contagious and fatal respiratory and digestive diseases.
• Rabies (core) – This protects your pet against rabies, which can be fatal and highly transmissible even to humans. 
• FeLV (non-core) – This protects your pet against Feline Leukemia Virus, a very contagious disease that can be fatal for indoor and outdoor pets. 

When should my pet be vaccinated?

Kittens should be vaccinated starting at 8 weeks, starting with FVRCP. Your cat should get FVRCP and FeLV boosters yearly. After the first year of being vaccinated against rabies, your cat should receive a booster after 3 years.
